4 Ways To Reduce Global Warming

Efforts to prevent global warming or at least, reduce the effects of it are already being conducted by the international community.

But the government can only do so much; we too have the responsibility and we have to make sure that we contribute to this global effort in our own little way.

Here is the list of simple, yet very effective ways to prevent global warming; some are very easy; some are plain environment friendly; some require a little investment; while others help you save a lot of money.

1. At Home

Replace incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs.

Making your home earth-friendly can be as simple as removing your power hungry yellow bulbs and replacing them with low-watt white ones.

Install programmable thermostat in your house.

This way, you will be able to automatically regulate your house's temperature especially at night.

To conserve more energy, lower your average temperature by 2 degrees during winter and increase it by 2 degrees in summer.

Keep your furnace clean. With a clean furnace, you don't have to dump hundreds of pounds of unnecessary CO2 a year.

Turn off all unused appliances instead of keeping them on "standby" mode.

Invest on energy-efficient appliances.

Look for Energy Star seal whenever you are buying a new appliance.

Plant a tree… or many trees. If your property permits, plant as many tree as you can to help reduce carbon dioxide in the air.

Insulate your home. Heat loss accounts to as much as 20% of your total energy consumption.

Check your house for leaks and insulate every corner of the house properly to keep the cold air out, especially during winter.

2. When Traveling

Whenever we drive our vehicle, we contribute to carbon emission that is one of the main contributors to global warming.

While there is no way to travel long distance without taking our vehicle, let us try to conserve gas as best as possible by driving smart.

Increase your gas mileage by keeping your car tuned up, keeping your acceleration gradual, and maintaining the most fuel-efficient speed.

If possible, walk, bike or carpool.

The more fuel you save; the better for the environment and the better for your pockets.

If you are planning to buy a new car, choose from different fuel-efficient hybrid cars.

3. Waste Management

One of the best ways to reduce your carbon footprints is by reducing the amount of waste you throw.

Bring your own bag every time you go to the grocery.

Bring your own reusable bottle of water every time you go out.

Segregate your waste. Separate the bio degradable from non-bio degradable products.

Suggest that your local government should have proper waste management program to reuse waste products.

4. The keywords? Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

These are just some of ways to help ease the burden our Mother Nature experiences.

Yes, all these efforts may not account so much, but at these times, every ounce of effort to save the environment is worth a lot, especially if done collectively.

Have a wonderful day.
